As a long time Zen practitioner and an academically trained student of religions, I thank Audrey Yoshiko Seo for an impressive work, written with clarity and analytical skill. A total of 57 plates of ens' are included, with images dating from the 15th Century C.E. through the early 20th. Each is given a brief, lucid commentary. Also included are brief biographies of each artist.The drawing of ens' has been a regular part of my practice for more than 20 years. I have looked for a serious appreciation of the subject for even longer. I thank the author for her work.
