Leader Rick Arbuckle has been with Zen Dadio since the beginning, and the band has had many contributors over the last 20 years. The unique quality of the C-melody saxophone sets the group apart, and Rick's experience in film and television soundtracks is apparent in the nature of the tunes--they all seem to tell a story. In the early Hollywood days, the band played at venues such as Club Lingerie (on Sunset Blvd), Fellini's (on Melrose), and excursions to downtown where the art community met at Gorky's. This first CD, now and zen, released in 1997, includes many tunes from the early days. The stellar talents of Ken Rosser on guitar, Chad Edwards on piano, Richard Frank on bass, and Steve Arbuckle on drums makes for an exciting debut album. No less than six tunes received airplay on jazz stations across America, and one of the tunes, tenderfoot, is in the motion picture, American Beauty.
